    Thank you, Speedy, for this meaning-laden song. It sparks a memory of a girlfriend in NYC in late 1960’s who was an avid fan of much talented Janis Ian. Full appreciation now too of your screengrab of our esteemed and beloved Wayne relaxed and gifting us a very pleasing display of his rare beauty.

    Imagine how bold this song was in 1967! Some radio stations (mostly in the South, surprise!) refused to air it. Have you heard her song, “The Man in Me”?

      Her record label financed the production of the original Society’s Child, but wouldn’t release it. So Janis found another label that would release it. I suspect the original company was all for the song, but didn’t want to risk losing business by releasing it. It was very radical in the middle of the civil rights movement.
